The ZAHONY transloading site occupies an area 2.6 miles long and
0.14 miles wide. It consists of four (4) separate but adjoining yards,
extending along the rail line from SW to NE. The approximate size of
the four (4) yards are as followss
5000 feet long - 12 to 15 tracks wide
3500 feet long - 25 to 30 tracks wide
3700 feet long - 21 to 25 tracks wide
4700 feet long - 26 to 30 tracks wide
Present facilities include a locomotive repair shop approximately
200 feet x 100 feet, a turntable 90 feet in diameter, a car repair shop
200 feet x 70 feet, a coaling tipple, and a large freight shed 780 feet
x 35 feet.
Construction activity is prevalent throughout the area. Grading
operations and the construction of concrete platforms now underway
indicate expansion of existing transloading facilities.
