EMORANDUM FOR: Project Director
SUBJECT
25X1A
The Attached Studyl -,A Method
for the Determination of Relative Coordinates
for Missile Target Location"
1. Some time ago the Ad Hoc Requirements Committee considered
whether there should be requirements levied upon AQUATO NE for collection
relevant to geodetic control. At that time the Ad Hoc Requirements Committee
gave a negative reply; this included the view of the Air Force.
Recently, as you may have noted from ARC Minutes and docu-
meats, the ARC has, at the instance of the Air Force. explored the question
of use of AQUATQNX to improve geodetic accuracy of control points.
3. As a result of my recent visit to AFCIN to review their existing
TALENT billets and possible future needs, I learned that the tarasts ni-
nation is planning to request a number of billets in the order of in
order to exploit TALENT materials for geodetic control purposes.
f. Experts among the ARC agencies are currently investigating 25X1 A
points in the USSR. Thereupon, they will recommend to the ARC control
points not covered now but which need to be covered with the thought that
flight planning may be able to cover some of these without deviation from
ighest or high priority targets.
5. I have discussed the attached brochure with Mr
Lundabi
.
.
He has informed me that his present functional assignment does not
include exploitation of photography for geodetic control purposes. The
lens calibration efforts of his office with the office of Operations. while
relevant to the improvement of geodetic accuracy, are essential to his
own photogrammetric exploitation. Mr. Lundahl suggests that in their
USAF review(s) completed.

poeal they take note of a possibility of a break-
t rough in regard to camera mounting as applicable for geodetic control.
So noted to me a number of other very essential areas of problems which
would probably have to be solved to gain for A.QUA,TONE a capability for
precisely meeting geodetic control purposes.
Mr. Lundahl, of course, stands ready to advise in greater
event for your own reasons you may wish to pursue the
lopment of AQUATONE as a vehicle for meeting geodetic control
data. Pending an Indication of your wish in that direction,, he sees no
need to go further with the matter.

Whereas we have no way of knowing to whom in the Air rare*
as sent this study, I r ld propose that I turn this over to "CM
as it may be of interest to them.
