Your Memo, dtd 12 Jul 89, Subj: Bills Introduced
in the 101st Congress that May Impact on Agency
Communications Policies
1. I appreciate your alerting us concerning the introduction
of HR 1072 to the Congress. It would be useful if you could
monitor the bill's progress from time-to-time and provide
periodic summaries on actions that occur.
2. We have been following with a great deal of interest
current efforts on the part of the Federal Telecommunications
Standards Committee (FTSC) Land Mobile Radio (LMR) Subcommittee
to develop a new federal standard (Fed Std 1044) for government
LMR trunked radio systems, and development of this standard is of
critical importance to the furtherance of interoperability among
federal radio systems.
the outcome of HR 1072 will no doubt have
a direct bearing on the FTSC's work in developing the new
standards. Please keep us posted.
