The Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS)
(subject category FG 6-2-1) was first established as the
Foreign Broadcast Monitoring Service in the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) by a Presidential directive
of February 26, 1941. The Service was renamed Foreign
Broadcast Intelligence service by an FCC order of ?1u1' 28,
1942, and transferred to the War Debar ttnerit by a War
Secretarial Order of Dec. 30, 1945. An Act of May 3, .1.945
(59 Stat. 110) provided for liquidation 60 days after
Japanese armistice. On August 5, 1946, the Service was
