MEMORANDUM FOR SA/DCI/SW
VIA: Director, SWS
U-0030/SWS 1 March 1976
SUBJECT: Army Participation in the SWS
1. As you well know, MGen Aaron has been far from enthusiastic,
in the past, in providing Army support to the SWS. However, the
USIB monthly review of the SWS and in particular the 8 January
example of the impact that SWS articles have, has caused him to
reassess his position. The recent letter from may
have been the vehicle whereby he could change is ecision. As
I understand it, he has done just that.
2. I have been informed that Gen Aaron has now approved Army
participation in the SWS and has directed his Director of Foreign
Intelligence, to work out the necessary arrangements
such as billet i en i?ica ion and selection of the person to fill
the billet. I also understand thati soon to be Major
will be nominated. I Iwas the Army member of

3. At this stage of the game I have no definite feelings as to
the suitability of assignment to the SWS other than
STAT the fact that he is relatively junior and may not have the ana-
lytical depth desired. However, I would hate to turn Gen Aaron
around again by not taking positive action on any nomination that
he feels is suitable.
Very respectfully,
STAT
