LOGNOTE - Chief, Operations Group, S December 1985
On the issue of the possible relocation of the bureau in Manama,
Jack had information more recent than that discussed earlier this
month with several Headquarters officers. First, the amount of
land being sought by the Embassy is considerably larger than
initially considered. With this additional space, most security
criteria will be met in the construction of the new chancery.
Second, the Ambassador's residence is now planned for another
location. Third, the Ambassador wants all Mission components,
including FBIS, within the chancery perimeter, and a separate
building site for FBIS has tentatively been identified within the
planned perimeter wall. One big however: not all the land,
particularly that identified for FBIS, has been purchased from the
(cc: D/FBIS, C/AS, C/FED/FSB)
