LOGNOTE -- Chief, Operations Group, 17 May 1985
1. (Williams) called this morning to say that the lease
for the new bureau property had run into a snag. Apparently the
Archbishop is having trouble assembling clear title to all the
land. There is some sort of water rights issue involved. Chuck's
lawyers and the GS0 feel that things will work themselves out; if
the Archbishop, who is the second most powerful man on Cyprus,
can't solve the problem, no one can. In any case they are not
inclined to spend any more time trying to solve what is, after
all, the Archbishop's problem. There will be another meeting of
the lawyers from both sides on Saturday. will let us know
the results early next week.
