(Williams) Talked t this morning. He reported everything in good order in Key West Bureau. He said the staff were getting along very well together. Lee said the Navy Commander had asked him repeatedly when FBIS plans to begin work on the housing. He apparently expects that Navy Headquarters will approve our request to begin construction on Truman Annex. Lee said he felt the bureau had done about as much as they could with communications. He sees no major change until INTERNET is installed. He noted that U.S. Forces Caribbean and the local NSA contingent are planning a joint satellite communication link also. They see this as the only way of getting out of the Keys. The bureau has encountered a few problems with the long recording TV equipment. The stacker/loader seems to want to have someone there to make sure the tapes replace each other properly. Beissel has been fiddling with it and has made some improvements. Lee will talk with the engineers about this. I asked Lee to check with the Navy to see if we could lay on an SOP for medical helicopter evacuation to Miami in the event of serious illness. We would expect to pay for the services of course. Lee said he would talk with the Navy which usually was very cooperative.
