LOGNOTE .................... Panama Bureau ............. 2 July 1986
DEH VISIT -- Doug Naquin and I paid a courtes
call
y
at the 193d Inf Bde Directorate of Engineering and Housi
DEH
ng (
)
this morning to meet Lt. Col. Donald Peters, acting commander.
Colonel Peters has been acting since Colonel Harris left in May.
The new commander, Col. Myles Coggins, is not expected until
sometime in August. Colonel Peters was not familiar with FBIS
or our long-standing airconditioning problems. We gave him a
general overview and agreed to provide a memo chronicling the
disaster for his information and that of the incoming commdander.
On the way out, and I stopped by Customer Services and I
introduced him to Mike Swenty, chief of the Engineering Resources
Management Division (ERMD); Stan Leon, who I believe is head of
the Work Receipt/Scheduling Branch of ERMD; and Mr. C. Greenidge,
our "planner/estimator." Swenty and Leon have been involved with
our A/C problems almost from the outset. We inquired as to the
status of the A/C overhaul (first requested by in 1979
and actually begun in 1984) and the installation o the new York
chillers, begun earlier this year. After about 5 minutes of toing
and froing between the three DEH gentlemen we were told that
they didn't know exactly what the status was, but would find out
and let us know. received a call from the head
of the A/C shop later this afternoon. He was promised that work
will begin again on Monday.) Believe we need once again to
huddle with someone from DEH, determine precisely what remains
to be done, execute the necessary paperwork and set up a tracking
system with monthly status reports from DEH.
