SUBJECT: FY 86 R&D Program
REFERENCE: Your note w/att., Same Subject, dated
12 August 1983
1. As requested in the Reference, I have attached ODP's
R&D problem statement input for the FY 1986 DDS&T Program.
Three statements have been provided this time. Two are new;
one is a repeat from last year (Low-cost TEMPEST Technology).
This list does not mention on-going R&D activities. It is
assumed they will continue to completion. I have also assumed
that a generic statement on computer security will be submitted
by OS.
2. Our priority ranking is as follows:
1. Low-cost TEMPEST Technology
2. Personal Computers in CIA
3. Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Software Design
3. The last item (AI for Software Design) could probably
be further generalized to "Improved Applications Development
Productivity," with AI being only a suggested approach.
