Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/01/19: CIA-RDP95-00972R000100120013-4 3 September 1983 ADSTAR TASKS TASK STATUS PRIORITY EST.HRS. 1 C 56 1A C 24 2 C 80 2A C 38 2B A H3 350 3 C 132 4 C H2 238 5 A H4 100 A Hl 300 H8 104 DESCRIPTION Install new CWS and AOS software. Fix boundary problem in DCS. Speed up VSS and fix problems. (study) Improve VSS under current software. (fix) VSS Rewrite. Configuration Control. Image Threshold Level. User Training and Support. On-Call Software Maintenance. Backup for MIF data base. Currently, when the MIF is dumped to magnetic tape, it is immediately scratched. (There is a rumor that it is also transferred to another file.) If there is any problem concerning the mag tape copy, such as parity errors, lost, misplaced, etc.; The day's MIF data is lost. Operating procedures and/or software revisions are necessary to guard against loss of MIF data during system operation, (e.g. what happens if the space allocation is exceeded?) C 140 Dump of Document Directory File. COMOUT should be replaced with an ADSTAR operator command to dump each document record to magnetic tape. The order of the document records can be such that dump time is kept to a minimum. 9 I L 104 Display specific frame for operator. Provide the operator a retrieval command to display any specified frame. The parameters of the command are: Reel ID, SARI and frame number. (Invoke from aHSD with special LOGON) Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/01/19: CIA-RDP95-00972R000100120013-4 Declassified and Approved For Release 2012/01/19: CIA-RDP95-00972R000100120013-4 -T1SK STATUS PRIORITY EST.HRS. DESCRIPTION 10 A H7 88 Move DOC SECURITY from interactive to batch. The Document Security procedure locks up the ADSTAR Console. This condition should be changed. 11 A H9 41 Date and/or time stamp operator messages. AOS printer console messages should have a time of day included. 12 I L 128 Fix starting frame problems in PAPERTAPE. Paper tape read. 13 C S8 Fix document count problem in SAR LOAD. 14 I M3 160 Optimize performance of COMIN, DOC SECURITY AND SAR LOAD. The processing times for COMIN, Document Security, and SAR LOAD excessive. These programs should be speeded up. 15 I H16 60 Dump documents on specific reel. There must be a capability to display on a CRT or a printer each document on a specified reel. The documents would be listed in their sequence on the reel. Start frame, number of pages, the document status code, and the document ID must be output. 16 I L 80 Add operator notification to batch processes. The long running batch jobs should periodically notify the ADSTAR Operator that the process is still operational. (Such, as, "XXXX Records processed".) 17 A H7 80 Change DOC SECURITY status handling. Document Security Tape - 'run twice' caused a cover page "Sec Chp' (status set improperly) (see #10) 18 I H6 80 Add range of pages print at UWS. Provide a capability to print at a UWS a series of continuous pages, e.g. from page 12 to 24. 19 I H18 120 Add coverpages at each SAR. Cover pages are in every SAR, currently it seems that Retrieval is aware of only 1 copy that exists in SAR 1. USER SECURITY access code incompatibility. Convert Camera workstation functions from IDEA to DG/L. Add option to input doc. sec. info during photography of 'new' and/or hrdcpy documents. (see 042 & 36) For deferred retrieval mode, add the number of pages of each document to cover a page. Consolidate the two LWS Document Information displays into a single screen. Messages that relate to previous transactions should be cleared from the ADSTAR screens. (see #33) When an On-line retrieval user is denied access to a document, give the reason on the screen. (i.e. No Document Security, Not authorized, etc.) Reduce the number of records in the MIF. Currently, there is no software to take advantage of the CWS and VWS journaling. If the code that produces these types of records were no-opped, we could always reactivate it at a later date. Add LWS stations that have CRT's only to support OCR's unanticipated file maintenance load. When the Character Printer runs out of paper it causes the printer to go off-line. DCS must be taken down and brought back up to restore the printer. A less primitive procedure must be found to restore the printer to service. When a retrieval request is issued for a document that exists in the data base and the status is other than available for retrieval, the system responds: DOC NOT FOUND IN ADSTAR SYSTEM. The response is misleading it should be changed to DOCUMENT IN PROGRESS, NOT AVAILABLE FOR RETRIEVAL. (This confusion affects "users" dis- plays and also "librarians".) Add the date when each status of a reel is set and add that information to the Range Report. Messages that result from a transaction remain until another message comes along. Once a new transaction starts, a message from a pre- vious transaction should be erased. (A way to handle this is to initialize the message area at the beginning of each transaction) (see 025) FRAMES command should be moved from ADSTAR Console to CWS. Document Information Display should be available at both LWS and CWS. The "mark reel unverified" should be moved from LWS to CWS. (see #22) A message "FIRST PAGE IS TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE" displayed to Librarians (character prtr) is confusing. It should be changed to something precise. (We will check with DLB.) At the time a document identifier is entered for any type of re- trieval request it should be checked for syntax. If it fails the syntax check, the user/librarian should be informed and permitted to re enter another document ID. (Same as in LWS and VWS) The BIQ and LIQ request numbers are excessively long and clumsy to use. They should be simplified to a compact format. Provide the number of input records/transactions for the Doc Security and User Security programs. Also the number of error transactions and the number of good transactions. Provide the ability to delete an entire SAR LOADED reel and all its documents from the Document Directory File. Change the reel assignment logic to permit an operator the option to directly assign any partial reel that has the proper status. DESCRIPTION 43 I M10 80 Deferred retrieval requests for Hard Copy documents should be se- parated out and printed on a separate Document Routing Sheet. VSS should be programmed to use the four concurrent paths in the switch whenever possible. (see/2B) 45 I MS 80 Indicate new Line actions by 'message response'. (Limit to CWS and VWS) 46 I M2 ? Cancel a job. 47 I H19 240 Image Enhancement Utilization. ADSTAR must have the ability to use image enhancement at the LWS for both the deferred requests and on-line retrieval; it is also needed for deferred requests at the UWS. 48 I L 120 Move Batch Update to VWS. % Batch Update is now performed on the LWS. It would be more effectively employed if located on the CWS.
