Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/08/27: CIA-RDP95-00972R000100170004-9 7,;(.4 ' STAT STAT STAT STAT J I /-k I STAT 14 March 1979 ;4EMORA4DUM FOR: Deputy Director for Processing, OOP FROM SUBX6CT Clifford D. May, Jr. Director of Data Processing NSA Standard Soft Copy Terminals 1. 1SA has adopted a version of the Delta Data 7000 terminal as the NSA standard soft copy terminal. Tne new terminal was acquired competitively and, I am told, the ter- minal and its disks meet full NACSEM 5100 tempest require- ments. I am also advised that the u7it cost of the basic Tempest terminal is 2. I would like for you to conduct an analysis of the NSA terminal to determine whether it has a place in our overall family of Tempest soft copy terminals - perhaps as a low cost limited utility device. In this connection, I would like you to prepare a matrix comparing our terinals to the NSA terminals, feature for feature. In addition, I want to be sure that we are not paying Delta Data under our contract for work on Tempest protection which the government has already paid for under the.SA contract. I would like for you to probe this vosaihtlit.v. kinally, I nave committed OOP to send to my counterpart at .4SA, a description of the features included in our new terminal. I think the RFP and contractor's proposal should contain this information and should be forwarded to 3. The people at NSA a to hear from you on this matter. I said that would probalav bA the man who would conta7 them. Their contact is 4. I believe that we should take the initiative to acquaint DIA with what we are doing terminal-wise. Pernaps such a move might encourage a greater degree of terminal standardisation in the Community. If you agree that this is worth pursuing, see if you can arrange a contact with DIA through CSPO. cc: DID/ODP C/AS/ODP Distribution: Orig - adse 2 - ODP Registry 1 - ea cc 3 - O/D/ODP 0/D/ODP/CDMay:ee/3-14-79 I Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2012/08/27: CIA-RDP95-00972R000100170004-9
