Approved For Release 2000/08/07 : CIA-RDP96-00788R000600300018-5 MEMORANDUM FOR: Major O'Keefe SUBJECT: Location of UH-1H 1 June 1981 The following information was acquired through debriefing of an undeveloped source concerning the location of a missing UH-1H helicopter. 1. Source was asked to provide azimuth and distance, as best he could, from the following geographic coordinates to the crash site. 040 23' 40" 5/0790 25' 20" W; 202?, approximately 30 km 04? 36' 00" 5/079? 27' 00" W; 3260, approximately 65 km 040 21' 30" S/079? 24' 00" W, 3600 or 1.80?, approximately 20 km The above azimuths relate to true north. 2. When asked about a terrain feature known as "Piedra Blanca", source described a large hill/mountain with a white stone face. Source felt that the crash site was located within 3 kilometers of "Piedra Blanca" on the backside of a hill (see sketch). 3. Source felt that the UH-1H had to make an alteration in its course due to extreme weather conditions. Due to decreased visibility and unfamiliar terrain, source feels that the pilots of the UH-11-I were lost. NOTE: All information provided in this memorandum is unconfirmed and unevaluated. *X,41-k c4a-, MELVIN C.
