Approved For Release 2003/04/18 : CIA-RDP96-00789R002500170025-0 DATA SUMMARIES (S/NF/SG/LIMDIS) Following are_perceived highlights from each source. The period covered is'14-15 October 19934.,_ - (S/NF/SG/LIMDIS) Source (Green Data): -- Aidid will experience a fall from power. Ground forces will return home around February. The delegation from the United Nations will set forth conditions for Somalia to obey. Negotiations for peace by political authorities from the regions concerned will provide the necessary resolutions to end the conflict. - (S/NF/SG/LIMDIS) Source (Red Data): -- Warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid can be located in the area or Garoe. (See map la for location) He is traveling more freely now and he has plans to continue to travel. It seems that he moves in and out of Mogadishu. He is a man who now wants peace and is willing to work with our President and the United Nations. He will be making a speech shortly and will be out in the open. As long as he is willing to negotiate, he will not be arrested. The country of Somalia will have peace shortly. - (S/NF/SG/LIMDIS) Source (Black Data): -- The subject is currently located in the structure depicted on the city map of Mogadishu (see map 1c). The structure is square-shaped on sits on a corner overlooking an intersection. Its location appears to be completely residential; that is, an area without shops, stores or other businesses. It is two story with a railing across the second floor. This residential area does not appear to be poor or poverty oriented but well kept. There is a low wall across the front. This structure is a relative's house. See (diagram on enclosure 2a) for a description of a green metallic object associated with this house. REPRODUCTION REQUIRES APPROVAL OF ORIGINATOR OR HIGHER DOD AUTHORITY FURTHER DISSEMINATION ONLY AS DIRECTED BY DIA/PAG OR HIGHER DOD AUTHORITY CLASSIFIED BY MULTIPLE SOURCES DECLASSIFY ON OADR NOT RELEASABLE TO FOREIGN NATIONALS STAR GATE Approved For Release 2003/04/'8 N9TkSRDP96-00789R0025001700 Slosure 2 Approved For Release 2003/04/18 : CIA-RDP96-00789R002500170025-0 -- Arms shipments are entering Mogadishu from three different directions (see map lb). It is perceived as being reminiscent of Iranian and Iraqi involvement via second parties. A small "cartel" with several nationalities are represented. -- Subject's intention is to eliminate the leadership of the, other factions once U.S. is out. Subject is focusing-in on the individual who, himself, is a clan leader, but has somehow been placed in a leadership role commanding or representing a group or confederation of many other clans/groups. -- Subject wants to steal large pieces equipment from occupying forces. Intent is to somehow acquire armored vehicles for use against the other factions. -- Subject wants to exchange more personnel from both sides of conflict. He wants to.portray himself as a progressive, "modern" individual; not the image of some "backwoods" despot. -- There is a small boat with rockets in the A.O. The plan/idea for this type of activity comes from a group outside of subject's group. This outside group has infiltrated the subject's group. Their intent is to use subject's group as a "cover"; then, proceed with their own agenda. -- This outside group is, and has been, independent of any country (reminiscent of the M.O under which groups like Abu Nidal once, or continue to, operate). However, there is a strong impression that this group is out of Lebanon; and specifically associated in the past with the region of eastern Lebanon and Syria. It is perceived that probable past training camps or facilities were located in this area of the Middle East many years ago.
