Approved For Release 2000/08/08 : CIA-RDP96-00789R002600230005-4 5. (S/SG/NF/LIMDIS) Operational Proficiency and Testing Activity. We have recently completed a phase of proficiency programs for our personnel, and they are now concentrating on supporting a variety of research programs. Thus, there is a clear linkage and synergism between our external research efforts and our in-house DIA capabilities. In light of the current work schedule, we are currently developing a follow-on detailed schedule for a variety of operational projects, which will be executed in FY92. 6. (S/SG/NF/LIMDIS) Miscellaneous Matters. In addition to the above, DIA is also embarked on a number of other actions relative to Project STAR GATE. DIA is currently identifying 10 civilian billets to provide permanent billets to the STAR GATE unit, and this should be completed in the next month or so. In the areas of health and safety, DIA has completed the renovation of the interior of the two buildings used for Project STAR GATE. Regarding these buildings, they are old structures that had been scheduled for demolition as part of a Post renovation program. We are currently engaged in discussions with the Post Commander to postpone or cancel the scheduled June 1993 demolition. The STAR GATE unit's ADP equipment is partially installed, and the unit will be fully operational in the next few months. This equipment is integral to the foreign data bases and to the operational/training programs. 7. (S/SG/NF/LIMDIS) Summary. DIA's overall assessment of the status of Project STAR GATE is that all activities continue on schedule and that well- defined management and execution plans exist to guide the program efforts and to serve as an audit trail of the accomplishments and outstanding actions. The next major milestones will be this summer, when we will complete the research begun in FY91, will have updated assessments of foreign activities in this area, and will have completed the key FY92 objectives.
