1. A recent security survey of the found that
there were a number of IBbi electric typewri ers on and which
fdo not meet TEMPEST criteria. The Office of Logistics has been
proceeding on the basis that all electric typewriters listed in
Headquarters iVotice 45-.187, dated 22 December 1977 meet the '
emission test requirements. Vmong these is the (S)

to us, we had three of the typewriters returneci to Headquarters for
testing. To the best of our knowledge, aIi electric typewriters
shipped overseas from our depot meet TEMP_ET requirements. Of the

conducted on the returned typewrfters by your office, we are con-
cerned that there may be other typewriters in use in sensitive
locations which do not meet.the TEMPEST- requirements and present-.
