Writer Joseph Persico, who wrote "The
Imperial Rockefeller" and "Edward R. Mur-
row: An American Original," to be published
this fall, has signed with Viking Books to
write the biography of the late CIA director
William Casey. A friend of Casey's, Persico
will have the family's cooperation and access
to Casey's papers. The book reportedly will
cover all of Casey's life but will focus especial-
ly on his leadership of the CIA. "What he did
at the CIA dwarfed the performance of any of
his predecessors," Persico says. "Casey's CIA
in certain areas was far more of a force in the
making of Reagan foreign policy than the
more likely departments of State and De-
fense." The yet-untitled book is scheduled for
publication in the fall of 1990.. .
