Retired Adm. Bobby Inman is as
popular among hard-core intelli-
gence types as, say, Count Dracula.
In fact, some were seen yesterday
looking for a stake and a mallet to
t to rest the liberal, anti
~former deputy CIA direc-
tor's influence.
The admiral was in town re-
cently sewing up the appointments
of two of his proteges for key slots
in the intelligence community. Bill
Working - described by one hard-
liner as a "green eye-shade office
weenie" - is said to be in line to be
director of intelligence for the Na-
tional Security Council staff. And
Doug Mulholland - who formerly
headed intelligence for the Trea-
sury Department under Jim Baker
and was described as having
"stacked arms 10 years ago" - is
heading the list to run the State De-
partment's bureau of intelligence
and research.
"The agency guys are appalled;'
said one caller, referring to intelli-
gence professionals at the CIA.
