RE: Your proposed remarks to the
DS&T Career Development Course
11 December 1987, 0930 Hrs.
You are scheduled to address the 15 participants in the Directorate of
Science and Technology's Career Development Course on 11 December in your
conference room. The course, which began on 14 September, will end on
11 December. The course is designed for officers in the middle grades, GS-12
through GS-15, who have been identified as having potential for advancement to
senior positions. Although most of the enrollees are S&T officers, there is
at least one representative from each of the other three directorates.
the course coordinator, will escort you into the
conference room at u930. Your remarks might include some general comments
about the Career Development course (a syllabus is attached), a look at
challenges facing the DS&T followed by an exchange with the course members
concerning their experience in the directorate, and a statement of what is to
be emphasized under your leadership. This approach will appear in the
attached outline.
The 13-week DS&T Career Development Course is offered twice a year and
includes travel to Hawaii, California, and Colorado for briefings and
presentations. In addition to studying the missions and functions of the
different offices within the DS&T, the course members examine major issues
confronting the Intelligence Community, the role of the Intelligence Community
in policymaking activities, and the management principles and techniques
applied by senior management both within and outside of the Agency.
