Items for Discussion with the President
1. V You will, of course, want to discuss at greater length your
China trip. In that connection, you should discuss extending
the trip to include Indonesia and the Philippines.
J2.
You will also want to discuss your negotiations with the Israelis
regarding the dates for the Rabin visit.
3. You may wish to discuss briefly the economic summit. We have
not yet heard from Giscard in response to the President's
second letter about Canadian attendance. Rumsfeld told me
today that the President wants to take only minimum staff
with him on that trip.
4. 1 It might be worthwhile to discuss whether or not Mrs. Ford
wishes to go to Florida for the meeting with Sadat. It is my
understanding that the President is now thinking of taking
Mrs. Ford and staying overnight Sunday night. However,
I have the impression that Mrs. Saccat is not enthusiastic about
going to a dinner on Sunday and that' she really prefers to go
to Disney World. Also Governor AOkew would prefer having
a stag, dinner.
You probably will not have time to discuss it this morning,
and you will not have had a chance to review the paperwork
thoroughly, but we have an urgent problem on security
assistance and Lynn's desire to make cuts in the FY 76 security
assistance budget. We will have to send the budget figures
for the Middle East and Greece/ Turkey to the Hill on Monday
to avoid having to introduce those figures on the floor of the
House.
6. I am sure you will be discussing Schlesinger further.
