The U. $. Government on November 8 confirmed premature
press stories that with almost all Congressionally approved U. S.
military shipments to Pakistan now completed, there will be no
rrther delivery of military equipment for the time being. The U. S.
Government wants the Chinese Government to understand the reasons
why this step has been taken. With the pipeline of military items
reduced to $3 mrill.Lon and with the certainty that the U. S. Congress
would not authorize any more :sundae, it was decided, with the con-
currrence tat the Pakistan Government, not to complete the remaining
shipments. This was done, to full consultation with the Pakistan
Government, to enable the U. S. Government to make a maximum
effort to continue the substantial economic assistance to Pakistan.
This steep has been used and inflated by pant- ardisn elements to prow
duce a major press sensation for their own ends.
The U. S. Government wishes the Chinese Government to know
that senior o#icisiae expect to receive the Pakistan Foreign Secretary
in the near inure.
