The Indonesian Embassy has requested an appointment for the Sultan to pay a courtesy call on you. The Sultan would be willing to come to Washington anytime during the period July 10-15. If convenient, I believe it would ? be appropriate for you to receive the Indonesian Vice ?President. He enjoys great prestige in Indonesia ?and has the full confidence of President Suharto. The Sultan is a revered traditional leader who succeeded in making the transition to high office in ,an independent republic.
