Elements of an Interim Sinai Agreement
There are three interrelated military-political problems concerning
a possible Israeli-Egyptian interim Sinai agreement which Sam
Hoskins= is examining on a contingency basis at our request:
--The technical feasibility and the communications security
problems posed for the United States in manning the three early
warning stations (two Israeli and one Egyptivi) which might be
part of the agreement;
--the feasibility of construction and military need for two roads
from Ras el Sudr to Abu Rodeis, one Egyptian and one Israeli;
--the military need for Israeli defensive positions at the crest
or on the Western slope of the Gidi and Mitla passes, as compared
to defensive positions at the mouth or just to the East of the
entrances of these passes.
