UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO : 3133 Attn: Mr. FROM 034 DATE : 11 Jul 66 SUajzcr: Inquiry Concerning Research on ESP, Telepathy, etc. (5 Jul 66) 1. In checking on your inquiry at various points within CIA, the following information has been developed. The major scientific literature in this field. appears to be indexed in Psychological Abstracts and Index Medicus, Readings vary somewhat but these are relevant: Extra-sensory perception, telepbiily, clairvoyance, parapsychology, psychical research, hypnosis and possibly electro? narcosis. These publications may be available at the NSA Library, but more probably they are not. Significant foreign journals are indexed as well as those of the U.S. From a cursory examination of them, it is my opinion that it would be more advantagq pus for you to research them personally rather than having it done for you. There has been quite a lot published, but there are so many facets to the problem that you could most easily determine those items of specific interest. On the other hand, you may have already used these at the Library of Congress. 2. An intellofax listing pertaining to intelligence documents was requested and received, but since there were no references specifically pertinent to your subject. It is not being forwarded. The subject coding only goes to the broader headings of "psychology" and Nneuropbysiology". However, still pending for you is a request for a listing of any translations which may have been indexed by the Foreign Documents Division of CIA which may be relevant. It will be forwarded when received or you will be informed if the results are negative. 3. Another possible source for this type of information which has been suggested is the National Library of Medicine. According to my informant, it has the capability to prepare bibliographic runs on g iven medical subjects. In addition, it will supply upon request at no charge reproduced copies of articles from publications in its collection in lieu of loans provided the requester supplies a complete citation. Mr. C313/ NSA Library (b)(3) (139293), can assist bou with this if you choose. nce no also handles NSA requests for information and loans at the Library of Congress, he is familiar with the rather extensive medical collection there and says he has seldom found it necessary to contact the National Library of Medicine, but he can advise you or take whatever action is needed, 4. All issues of Applied Science and Techn2LW Index from 1961 ?? 1966 (June) were checked. Attached are two references taken from it. The journals in which they appear should be available at NSA. You may find the Reader's Guide useful although generally references there are from more popular literature. CUP1 Exda6:+ Cyr. ?:tr-?
