1. On many occasions I was pressed to join the Polish Communist Party
(the United Polish WorkersiParty - Polska Zjednoezoha Partia Robot7
nioza PZPR) or the Union of Polish Youth (Zwiazek Mlodziez
50X1 ? Polskiej ZMP). I finally joined the ZMP in F---1 while at

03.v.L.L4.0.41 slimbers of the ZMP, but I do remember that membership
was for those between 14 and 24 years of age, dues were 30 groszy
a month, and meetings were held once or twice a month. The ZMP
emblem, ffncl. go was worn by both civilian and military members.
Civilian members or the ZMP wore the following uniform on meeting
and parade occasions: blue trousers or skirt, green shirt, red
tieyand the ZMP button, which was worn on the right breast. The
ZMP was the political training organization from which members of
the PZPR were selected.

2. All I know of the Service to Poland (Sluzba Polace - SP) was that
Polish young people; 15 to 20 years of age, were called upon to
give three Months' labor service to their country. The uniform
worn by the SP was the discarded twill OD of the Polish Armed
Forces. SP members also had the Same grade and rank as the Polish
Army. SP members worked on farms, on roads, in mines, and in some
factories.

3. To foster better athletes as well as better and more efficient
Workers, there was, in 1952 - 1953, an athletic work club in
Poland called Skill in Work and Defense (self-defense) (Sprawnosc
do Pracy I Obrony - SPO). On different occasions in'Wroclaw
and Elk, I remember seeing athletes wearing the SPO badge on their
shirts. The letters were of white cloth inside a white cloth
circle. I have no further details.
4. For the improvement of relations between the Poles and the Russians,
there was the Polish-Soviet Friendship Society (Towarzystwo Przy-
jazni Polsko-Radzieckiej - TPPR). I can give no details on this
society.
