4. I I Briefed Chairman Lucien Nedzi, Intelligence
Operations Subcommittee, House Armed Services Committee, regarding
Chinese strategic missile developments, Soviet aircraft carrier, and Soviet
military shipments to Syria. Nedzi said he recalled our earlier briefings
and forecasts about the Chinese ICBM program, and the current information
fully confirmed these estimates.
5. Received a call from Mildred McRae,
in the Knoxville office of Representative John J. Duncan (R., Tenn. ), who
wanted to know how to put a young constituent of theirs in touch with Air
America and the Flying Tigers Airline. I gave her the telephone numbers
of both.
6. Received a call from Ralph Preston, House
Appropriations Committee staff, who told me that he has had no request
this morning for review of the transcript of the Director's briefing of the
combined Defense and Military Construction Subcommittees of yesterday.
The transcript will be retained here in Legislative Counsel for safekeeping.
7. I I Received a call from Pete Murphy, House
Appropriations Committee staff, who requested advice on proper address for the
Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives, government of Korea, for the
Chairman. The information was obtained from George Carver, SAVA, and
relayed to Murphy.
