T!^,s following information, reported by foreign broadcast from Moscow, Soviet
Home Service, 29 January 1947, concerns Dixon Island:
"An electioneering plane of the political department of the central
office of the northern sea. route has #?lov from Moscow to the Arctic. Our
special correspondent, a'-U n, sent us the following radio message from
the plane:
1100n Dixon Island the weather is not treating the Arctic
workers too kindly. It is cold, there are strong minds, and
violent snorstorms are frequent At two, o1clock it is already
dark here, but the brightly lit sign "propaganda center" can
be seen from afar. On January 27 at 1600 Moscow time our plane
landed at Tiksi. We flow in a great arc around the Taimyr Penin-
sula, flying about 2.000 ICilcmeters
"'In the history of Polar aviation this is the first time
that a flight has been made at this time of the year in the
northern part of the Taimyr Peninsula. Arctic Tiorkers in north-
ern Taimyr wera supplied Wi ;h electioneer in, literature, news--
papers, magazines, slogans. At some points we dropped parcels
from the plane.)"
