(FOR KEY SEE REVERSE) SVAZARM Airfield, Libereo 11 The Liberec Airfield is. situated midway along the Ostasov-Ruzodol road, which forms its northern boundary. On the other sides are fields. The airfield area is marked by red an white.stakes bent over at the tope The airfield is about one kilometer long and 500 meters wide. On its northeast side is an enclosed space with barracks and hangars. 2. When the Air Force left the airfield in spring 19539 the SVAZARU (Union for Cooperation with the Army) took it over and in the following summer glider and parachute training began. 39 SVAZARM training takes place at this field on Saturdays and Sundays and irregularly on some afternoons during the'week,. About the same amount of gliding as parachute training is being carried out. About 30 persons, of whom one-third are women, attend the training. Parachute jumps are performed from small, low-winged planes flying at an altitude of 500 meters, from which parachutists jump in pairs. Two aircraft are used for 15- and 20-minute flights. Fifteen gliders are used for gliding; these are towed by small aircraft, from which jumps are also made. The gliders, about four at a time, usually remain in the air about 20 minutes. Military Barracks in Libered 4. One barracks is located on the northwest side of the Mamesti Sovetske Armady (So4et Army Square), in the southeast part of the town. The area of the barracks is about 130 meters long and 80 meters wide and is protected partly by wooden fence and partly by wire netting two meters high. The estimated number of soldiers is 1,500. This is also in the southeast part of the town. The shape of the barracks area is rhom- boida1' the southeast side is 100 meters long, the northwest side 70 meters,, and both the remaining sides are about 150 meters long. The estimated number of soldiers billeted in these barracks is 800? 6. Training is carried out daily on the training ground lying between Ruprechtice and Radcice. Night exercises take place in the forest in the Katerinky---Rudolfov area. At training it was observed that the men were armed with rifles, submachine guns, and machine guns. The uniforms had green facings and epaulettes, bordered with black piping. Only six Skoda trucks and three Skoda jeeps were seen in the first barracks and four Skoda trucks in the second barracks. The hangar shelters two single-engine monoplanes, it also shelters a few gliders. 2. Control tower, wooden,, about six meters highs with a mast holding a vied sleeve on its top. 3. Hangar, brick, 60 meters wide and 90 meters long, wooden arched roof covered with'tar-paper; divided in three parts, with sliding doors. The hangar probably shelters only gliders. 4, ?.bout ,4 wooden huts,, one-story, each approximately 30 x 15 meters, housing soldiers. The soldiers probably belong to a chemical units they have black shoulder boards with a yellow circle a.t .25 mm. in diameter and an arrow.. across it. There are flamethrowers in the unites equipment and the unit has a special antitank detachment. 5,, Road connecting the airfield with the main road. 6. Building, one-story, bricks 40 x 20 meters, part of it contains garages and the other part stables for two pairs of horses. 3,. Billets, three-story, masonry, 40 x 20 meters, contains a military music school for about 100 youths of 15-16. 4. Swimming pool, a basin 15 x 15 meters, open. 5.
