Pecs is a county (megye) seat. The county council (regyei tinics)
is located on Szichenyi Tbr,,along wi~h the county Party headquarters
and the municipal council (yarosi tanace). The municipal Party head-

Each city ward has its own Party office, which is used for meetings and lectures,
but no Party functionaries are permanently employed by the wards. Office hours are
held on Sunday morning only.
The Party secretariat holds political courses each year: two general courses for
beginners of two weeks'and two months' duration and an advanced course of four
months' duration. All courses have a weekly 2-hour lecture in the evenings.
6. Police headquarters is located near the Kulv.rosi PAlyaudvar railroad station.
Branch stations are located at the main rai)roggd station, on Percel Utca,
Pecsbanyatelep, SzabolcabAnyatelep, P6cs Gydrv&ros , 27 Firszt Sindor Ut,
Siklbsi Ut, and Szigeti Orszgut. There are a few patrols of two policemen in
the city; identity checks are not made except in cases of disorderly conduct or
strangers whose actions arouse suspicion.
7. Pecs has two railraod stations, the Kbzponti PPlyaudvar and the Kilvvrosi P.lyaudvar,
both for passenger and freight traffic. There are four passenger trains daily
to Budapest, two express trains leaving at 4:20 a.m. and 5 p.m. respectively and two
locals leaving at 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. respectively. Tickets may be bought at the
stations prior to departure time or at the Ibues agency in the municipal council
building without producing identification. There are no identity checks on the
station platforms or in the trains between Pboe and Budapest; however, identity
documents and frontier-eons permits are checked aboard he trains to VillAny and
Mohacs.
8. The interurban bus station is located on Koseuth T6r (formerly Majlath Ter).
9. The main post office, located on Desk Utca, is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The
nine branch offices in Pica and one in Picessabolos are open from 8 a.m. to
noon and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., except the branch at the railroad station
which is open to 9 p.m. Cables and registered letters may be sent up to midnight
at the main post office. Identity papers are not needed to send cables,
registered letters; money orders, or to make interurban telephone calls from the
post offices. A telephone call to Budapest may require several hours in the
morning rush hours, but it is usually put through fairly quickly in the evening.
10. All troops stationed in Pace are Hungarian, and military areas are located as
follows:
a. Infantry barracks on Ceend Utca and Doses Gy!'rgy Ut.
b. Antiaircraft barracks opposite the cemetery
c. Former AYH buildings, approximately oix kilometers from Pica on the road
to Pecevarad.
d. Military offices for recruiting and call-up of reserves in the former
Chamber of Industry building.

visions. The Soviet managers and engineers live in a building at the corner of
Desk Utca and RAkoczi Ut.
