The first step in preparing this list was to sort the IBM file
for individual semantic factors. New cards were made for each
semantic element of a given term. Thus from the card punched
for absorbent ok_on ..,.BASO TEXI, two new cards were prepare(I:

The groups of cards so prepared were then arranged in alphabet-
ical order of the single semantic factor, and tabulations were
run off to produce this listing.

D) Semantic Factor Dictionaries, Two listings were prepared.
In one of these the alphabetic order is based on the four letter
oodes,tused to designate semantic factors. In the listing, each
four letter code is followed by the words used to designate the
corresponding semantic factor. Thus the code MAGI is followed by
"apparatus", "devices", "equipment", "instrument", "machinery",
which are terms used to designate the broad concept or semantic
factor corresponding to the code MACI.
