to The Reference Branch serviced 1,301 requests for maps with
27,953 maps., and 118 related requests with 205 publications, Thirty
of the map requests were from Department of State personnel who came
personally to the Map Library for reap materrialso While the October
mV request figure was high in ccrr ariaon with October totals of other
years, it was 73 loss than last month's total, Place Name requests
totalled 120, and miscellaneous reference questions, 2290

3o The Reference and Processing Branches have started to

File copies and surplus stock of CIA-published maps,
4o The Cataloging and Indexing Section added to the Loan Copy
Collection 1,188 new map titles, comprising 3,166 sheets, New
publications processed for retention totalled 164 titles, 216 new
SAC charts were indexed and 97 publication entries were adddd to the
Union Catalog,

during October included 1958 economic maps on Africa and the Near
East; a 1958 Bulgarian transportation map; an. atlas-like volume of
32 maps showing the Iraq Petroleum Company installations in the Middle
East; a number of East German maps; and a 1958 list of place-name
equivalents for former German territory beyond the Oder-Neisee line,
