UNITED SVATES GOVERNME TO :Director of Training 25X1A 25X1A 25X1A FROM : Chief, School of International Communism and the USSR SUBJECT: Weekly Activities Report No. 29 17 July - 23 July 1959 I. While I indicated SIC's willingness to contribute whatever it reasonably could I also pointed out that we were not prepared to present a course focusing primarily upon the CPUSA. He did not appear to be too clear as to what the requirements of his office really were in this field so I requested him to survey the problem a bit further before we could commit SIC to a specific program. I believe that a portion of these Office of Security analysts are working on OP problems external to the US and could undoubtedly profit from what SIC is capable of offering. 2. I have checked further into the status of - proposed TDY to _ No actual request for training has been made, but ap- parently an informal invitation was issued to Eric by the - while they were here, and he indicated his availability in August or Sep- tember. If a formal request is made I would then like to open up the possibility of someone else's making this trip. I have suggested to that he give serious consideration to moving all of SIC into Wing A in Alcott. There is now enough space there for the entire staff and this would open up a complete Wing (B) for anyone in OTR who needs additional space. I spent the better part of two days this week reviewing latest literary effort, "The Ill-Isms of Communism," which consists of three hefty volumes of definitions. Since he has spent so many hours in turning out this product I felt that it warranted care- ful review, particularly since he is anxious to pass it along throughout the Agency - at the moment to SRS. While I had no thought of SIC's publishing it when I began the review I now feel very strongly that this should not even be pushed in any way. Even though Eric may do it as a personal effort he is associated with this school and a tacit endorsement on our part would certainly be implied. I would rather not have OM connected with this in any way. 6. Tutorial Training: 22 July 4 hours 23 July 4 hours 23 July 4 hours Approved For Release 2000/05/03: CIA-RD P61-00442A000100010020-7
