6. During the course of a future war the NIS will give priority
to filling. intelligence gaps and revising NIS on areas of military im-
portance to the production of such special NIS studies as m
required by the military situation; and to the development and in
tegration of new basic intelligence requirements stemming from the
in warfare.
6. In the postwar period the occupational forces will have
urgent need of basic intelligence support of military government
operations; and, with the return of peace, there will be the for id-
able task of revising and bringing up to date large segments of the
NIS to reflect the world-wide changes wrought by the war.

OFFICE OF BASIC INTELLIGENCE

Assumptions : The assumptions of this Annex are the bast
assumptions of the Global War Plan for the DDII Area with
the following additions:

those for National Intelligence Surveys (NIS). which will
require inter-agency coordination by 38I.

their own departmental requirements for basic intelligence
involving detail transcending the scope of the NIS.

dissemination thereof will continue without change
under present directives and according to schedules
now in effect and to be formulated.
2. Emphasis will continue to be placed on the production,
co, publication, and dissemination of the NIS,
and particularly CHAPTERS t thereof, accordin
priorities, in order to satisfy these
to the maximum extent possible prior to M-Day.
Personnel and equipment requirements in support of the
War Plan provided by this hex will be prepared and
revised as necessary (seee 091 Mobilization Plan).
When appropriate, and with the approval of the DD /I
the plans set forth in this Annex will be coordinated
with CIA. offices (ORR, 051, Fl OCI) and the IAC
and civilian agencies concerned:
The over-all features of the plane heroin set forth
will be coordinated with like features of the basic
intelligence War Plans of these offices and agencies.
b. The emergency evacuation plan for 031 will be co-
ordinated with similar plans for basic intelligence
components of these offices and agencies.
c. Agreements will be obtained with basic intelligence
producing agencies for the detail of liaison officers
with 031 to expedite wartime production.
