SUBJECT: Evaluation of Proposed _ Mission

1. This memorandum is a review and analysis of Route 1062,
which lies over the water along the coastal periphery of the
South Air Defense District. The evaluation is in support of
-mission- scheduled to be flown on 20 January 1968,
and is forwarded in compliance with this Office's responsibilities
as set forth in the reference.
2. Review of the mission route indicates the possibility
of at least one MIG-21 fighter reaction. The most recent
available AOB information indicates the presence of six MIG-21s
at Nanning/Wu-yu airfield (22-36N/108-10E) and a single MIG-21
at Lei-pei airfield (21-24N/110-12E) as of 17 January 1968.
3. There is only a very remote possibility of a SAM
reaction against the mission if Route 1062 is flown as planned
along the periphery twenty to twenty-five nautical miles from
the mainland.
