American intelligence, Judging The intensification of the expansionist policy of USA imperialism, resorting more and more frequently to direct acts as unw tingly given us a peek at the machinery, of sec'ret.war Characteristic in this respect is the book by Allan Dulles, The Craft of Intelligence (New York, 1963). Following the failure of the CIA sponsored adventure against Cuba, in April 1961, the not unknown master of espionage, A. Dulles, was used as scapegoat and officially resigned. However, as reported.by many informed observers, basically little has changed so far in intelligence work. Dulles's concepts of the role played by the CIA as a weapon. in US foreign policy are shared essentially by the now ruling circles of the country and are directly reflected in the practices of the secret services. Dulles himself has remained as-.::advisar ,and consultant on intelligence matters. He is a member of various government commissions and committees and is an active propagandist of the "cold war." Profiting from his, unofficial status, he has described in his book a great deal of the thoughts and actions of the current chiefs of US intelligence..
