BRYSON RASH: "Controversy over the Central Intelligence
Agency' s' supporting student organi:zations.---with funds continued
unabated today
"Dennis Shaw, who headed the National Student Association in
1962-63 said the CIA financing helped send American students over-
seas. with fewer restrictions than .they would have had under ' out-
right government sponsorship.
"Another leader of the NSA, today, Jim Johnson, said no CIA
funds were . used to finance the youth group's. extensive civil rights.
activities in the South. -
"The man in charge of the CIA during much of the time.At
secretly financed the RSA., Allen W. Dulles,.said today} 'From a.
national security point of view, it. was 'a good deal..'
"On the Senate Floor, Senator aa1? McGee of Wyoming defended
the CIA against. what he cal led 'short-s-ighted. criticism of its
role with.th.e student group.'
"On the present state of affairs., Sam Brown, an official o
the national student organization, outlines the policy of the
youth group."-
BROWN : "The national, supervisory board of the National Stu.
dent Association unanimously favors severing all ties with the
Central Intelligence Agency. The board is.currentl.y considering
the extent of NSA's relations with the CIA, ways to insure that
all ties are eliminated, and internal ? reforms. to insure that. It
will not happen again."
