Intelligence Production Course No. 9 (JOT Class of January 1960 had 19 students. The course began on 20 April and ended on 26 June 1961+, a total of ten weeks. 2. This was the first IPC class operated completely from Broyhill, and the course ran quite smoothly despite the frequent trips back and forth to Headquarters. This shifting was incon- venient for the students, particularly in terms of research and of having a working area at Headquarters. However, the changed schedule and reduced number of trips helped greatly in solving these problems. Future courses to be run at eight weeks will pose scheduling problems, but these will be worked out. 3. The big innovation in IPC No. 9 was the insertion of a full week of research time in the middle of the course. This time was in addition to the regular week of research at the end of the course. All of the students were high in their praise of this innovation, and the results -- all of the research projects finished in the last week of the course -- are ample evidence of the value of this scheduling and of putting a deadline on the paper. One or two days of this research time may be lost in future eight-week courses, but the intention of the faculty is to cut orientation and trip time rather than research time. 1+. Although the pessimism of the economy drive and job freezes came during the course, the students did not let the natural fears of curtailed job opportunities affect their performances. Actually, the group displayed an unusual interest and ability in working long, hard hours. If their performance were scored by effort alone, they would have been the top JOT class of all time. 5. In terms of performance the class was very much an average one for IPC groups. The over-all grades for the group show 11+ at P and 5 at S. instructional work in IPC No. 9 was done by members 25X1A 25X1A Approved For Release 1999/09/1 92 Had? 1 Exciuled from automatic downgrading and daciassification
