1. Purpose: To obtain approval to purchase two (2) sets
of fabricated and machined parts, and other long lead time
items in preparation of converting two (2) additional U-2 air-

2. Description of work or service required: Present
contracts with Lockheed will be amended to provide for the cost
of fabricating various sections and machining parts required in
the conversion of two (2) U-2 to Project configuration, including
an aerial refueling capability. There are other long lead time
items to be procured for this conversion, and these are to be
programmed concurrently with the authorization to Lockheed to
develop the fabricated and machined items used in the conversion.
Currently there is available one (1) set of parts to
complete one additional conversion to the J-75. Under the present
operational concept in which nine (9) aircraft will be required,
it is felt that two additional sets of conversion components will
be required to have this capability. One extra set of conversion
parts will be retained as back-up in the program.
3. Expected additional or related work or services: There
will be required four (4) additional -rT5 engines to b6 purchased
on contract with Pratt & Whitney to support the conversion of two
additional aircraft to Project configuration. This requirement
will have to be processed through AFCIG-5, who act as the control
point for J-75 engine procurement in the IDEALIST Program.
