Mobile Ready Room
The Mobile Ready Room Van as shown on Drawing F279-1020-1A
is a self-propelled vehicle intended for use as a dressing and
ready room for the donning of full pressure suits, preflight
and postflight check out and preoxygenation of pilots for high
performance aircraft. This van also provides for maintenance,
periodic inspection, testing and storage of full pressure suits
and related equipment.
The vans are self-sufficient allowing operation in remote
areas and incorporate connections for the use of auxiliary
power and services when stationed at fixed bases.
Of particular importance is the capability of air transporta-
tion of the vans in C-130 type aircraft.
Insofar as is possible, readily available commercial
components acceptable to the military are used.

be determined at final assembly.
All windows are green tinted safety plate glass. The
size and location of windows are'shown on Drawing F279-1020-1A.

The power plant is a heavy duty 202 horsepower, premium
high torque V-8 engine, 318.4 cubic inches displacement,
overhead valves, dry type aircleaner, one quart replacement
type oil filter, 35 AMP alternator.
The transmission is a loadflite automatic transmission
and the vans are equipped with power steering.
2. Electrical Generator - The-self-contained power source is
a four cylinder gasoline driven unit producing 15 KW @ 240
Volt, 60 Cycle, 3 Phase. The unit is in an isolated
compartment mounted on vibration dampners and is fitted with
a hospital type muffler. The unit has a forced air cooling
system and utilizes the van fuel supply (35 gallons). It
is manufactured by the Onan Division of the Studebaker
Corporation and is their model No. 15JC5DR.
3,. Air Conditioner - The air conditioner is an Airflow Model
SAC-5-9 rated nominally at five tons. It is for use in
warm or cold climates. Operation is completely automatic
after controls have been set. The unit is designed for:
1) Ventilating
2) Heating

4. Pilot's Chair - There are two pilot's chairs furnished
with the van. These are Barcalounger Model 2735-1-HD.
it is a reclining chair, sturdily constructed for long wear
and hard use. The upholstery is of the best quality
Naugahyde.
5. Full Pressure Suit Ventilation Each pilot's chair
includes a ventilation system. The unit is integrated into
a platform beneath the chair. It consists of a dry air
pump and a mechanical refrigeration system. Each vent unit
provides 15 CFM @ 15" H2O backpressure at the suit vent
fitting.
Pilot's Console and Suit Tester - Adjacent to each pilot's
chair is a console which includes all the facilities of the
DN70700-3 full pressure suit tester. This console also
includes face heat, vent flow control, oxygen supply and
intercom.
7. Test Stand and Vacuum Pump - The van includes a DN71800-4
test stand for personnel equipment hardware maintenance and
check out. A vacuum pump is furnished to accommodate the
test stand requirements.

8. oxygen Sup ly - For purposes of prebreathing and testing
an oxygen supply consisting of two 'K' type cylinders is
installed at the rear of the van. The cylinders contain
224 cubic feet of free oxygen each. The cylinders can be
recharged from a charging fitting located on the exterior
of the van as shown on Drawing F279-1020-1A.
9. Storage - The van contains approximately 36 cubic feet
of closed storage space for hardware, parts and tools. A
suit work table is also included adjacent to the test
stand. This work surface is approximately 2 feet wide x
7 feet long.
10. Lighting - Flourescent fixtures sufficient to provide
50 foot candles of illumination are located throughout the
van as shown on Drawing F279-1020-1A. Red lighting is
provided for night vision.
11. Curtains - Curtains are provided on each window and across
each end of the pilot's seatinglarea to block outside light
at and eliminate extraneous sunlight during daytime use.
12. Finish - The exterior of the van is finished in yellow
(color No. 13538 per Federal Standard 595).

The interior is finished with light tone wood grain
paneling on the walls, off-white acoustical material on
the ceiling and heavy duty, non-skid, light gray, vinyl
linoleum on the floor. '
13. External Power - An external power connection is installed
with a safety switch to change from external to generator
power.
