The van consists of equipment necessary to maintain the comfort and effectiveness of the people being transported. Following is a description of the individual components 1. Van Body and Chassis - The basic van is a Clark Cortez, Model 125 NB. Power is furnished by a 6 cylinder Chrysler HB-225 engine with a displacement of 225 cubic inches, and a horse- power rating of 140. Drive is through a four-speed synchromesh manual shift transaxte which in turn drives the front wheels. Power steering and power brakes are standard equipment. The front suspension is of the independent ball joint type with torsional bars, while the rear utilizes independent coil springs. Heavy duty double-acting shock absorbers are installed-at each wheel. A spare tire is furnished. The van body is fabricated of steel, unitized to add strength to the formed steel framework. The body is furnished with three doors, one at each side and one at the rear (30 inches wide). Window area is as shown on drawing No. F279-1040-2, and all glass.is dark green tinted safety plate. The vehicle exterior is painted yellow (color No. 13538 per Federal Standard 595). The interior of the vehicle is finished with light tone wood grain paneling on the walls, off-white acoustical material on the ceiling and heavy duty, non-skid, light gray, vinyl linoleum on the floor. A driver seat and a double width passenger seat is 2. Chair - Two reclining chairs (Barcalounger, Model 2735-1-HD) are included for pilot seating. These are heavy'duty, high back chairs covered with the best grade of Naughahyde. 3. Generator - To furnish electrical power an Onan, Model 12JC-3R, generator is installed. This unit furnishes 10,000 watts of power @ 240 V one-phase. It is driven by its own 4 cylinder, air-cooled engine and runs on gasoline drawn from the van tank (25 gallons). Generator cooling is provided by a ducted blower system, in addition, a thermostatically controlled blower removes residual heat from the generator compartment. 4. Air Conditioner - To maintain a comfortable temperature within the van, a Chrysler Airtemp, Model T25-43, unit is provided. This unit has'a capacity of 23,000 BTU cooling. Resistance heaters with a 7,000 BTU capacity in conjunction with the van hot water system provides heat for cold weather comfort. 5. Power Supply and Communications - To provide communications between suited pilots and attendants, a 28 V DC power source is required. The power supply furnished is a Gates Model GX30-5R. In addition, three intercom units (C823-A1C/10-GFP) are installed. A headset-mike combination (H157-A1C/10-GFP) must be provided. Patch cables to mate the suit with the intercom system are also included. At the pilots' intercom stations face heat is installed. A long cord (up to 30 feet) can be furnished to give the pilot face heat during transition from truck to aircraft. Lighting - Flourescent fixtures provide a minimum of 50 foot candles of illumination to the van interior. Red lighting is included for night vision. 7. Curtains - Each window is provided with heavy curtains and a large draw curtain is installed between the driver's compart- ment and the load area. These curtains are used to block outside light for night vision and to block extraneous sunlight during daytime use. 8. External Power - An external power connection is installed with a safety switch to change from extarnal to generator power.
