A. In view of the temper of the west German Bundesta
since French defeat of EDC, Chancellor Adena r will
have some difficulty in getting the Teitgrt-Adenauer
understanding accepted.
Prior to the London Conference,Ad d uer told Anetican
officials he was prepared to sdttle the Saar problem
on that basis, but he hasalince cast doubt on this
position by declaring that he agreed with most of the
Bundestag stateme
Even if Adenaustill feels he can accept a settle-
ment, he would probably want to put the Saar under
control the only supranational agency-- the Coal-Steel
nity-- rather than under the Brussels organization
