Since Beater the supply of meat has been very short- The population of Bucharest has rarely been able to purchase meat in the state etoresa although restaurants are fairly well suppliedo On occasions, howeve r& meat has been more available at the state atoresr, at the expense of the restaurants. is apparent, mcreoyer9 that the Runomian Gower melt prefers to sell meat in restaurants, Where it can get 300 - 400 lei per kilograms instead of the state stores where the fixed price on ration tickets is 70 lei per kilogram* 2. On 22 April a eighteen freight carloads of cattle for Soviet troops in Bucharest arrived at the Gera do Eat . The workers at the abattoirs, who bad not themselves eaten meat for a log times, reused to unload the meat. These workers were immediately placed under arrest and the freight cars were unloaded by members of the Union of Working Youth (1Ftf), 3, On 24 April, a street car passed a herd of cattle in the city streets. Passengers remarked that the cattle were going to the abattoir but tl}ay themselyeS would never receive a gram of the meat. A civilians, apparently a plainclothes policeetian or a Camonanista demanded that a worker who had expressed these sentiments Should explain himself. The worker thereupon seized this individual by the thra t shouting, "Look at nag See the state in which I axing I haven?t eaten meat for three months".
