Admiral Stansfield Turner, U.S.N.
Director of Central Intelligence

Dear Admiral Turner:
I am a second year student at Harvard Law School
I am very pleased to extend to you an inv-.Pt-
ation to address the Harvard community at a meeting of the Forum.
The Forum is a student-run organization, chartered for the'"purpose
of bringing people of note to engage in a broad ranging exchange of
ideas. (Past speakers have included William Colby, Dick 6fegory,
Melvin Belli, William Kunstler, and many others.)
We are now scheduling speakers for the Fall of
1978. Our programs generally consist of a presentation by the guest,
followed by a brief question and answer session with the audience.
Our format, however is most flexible, and we would be happy to
provide an alternative situation should you prefer it. In sum, we
would enjoy hearing whatever you have to say.
Should you decide to join us, we would host a dinn
in your honor before the program, and a reception afterwards. We
will pay your travel expenses and provide accommodations for you,
although our bylaws forbid us from paying honorariums.
We sincerely hope that you will accept our ir it-
ation. Please reply to the address below. After a positive response
I shall be in contact to discuss the particulars. Thank you very__

Dear Robert,
I'm sorry to have to put off your invitation
to speak at Fletcher School again but I'm afraid I
just won't be able to make it up your way this spring.
I would appreciate it though if you will keep
the invitation open for a bit longer. What I propose
is that my staff contact you in late spring to see if
we can work something out for next fall.
Thanks for your patience and, again, my apologies
for having to postpone the trip.

Dear Robert,
Thanks so much for inviting me to
speak at Fletcher. I do indeed intend to
maintain ties with the academic community
and would very much like to paya visit
to Fletcher. Unfortunately, I cannot
now commit myself to specific dates for
the remainder of the year.
I would like to ask for a rain check
though, since I may have occasion to travel
to the New England area in the February -
May time frame. If this very tentative
acceptance is agreeable to you and
Fletcher, my.staff can firm up details
with you at a later date.
