1. The Georgi Dymitrow High Tension Equipment Factory, A-1 (Zakiady
Wytworcze Aparatow Wysokiego Napiecia imienia Georgi Dymitrowa) was
located at 2/6 Kaluszynska Street, Warsaw. There was also a branch
factory (Zakiady Wytworcze Aparatow Wysokiego Napiecia) on Glowna
Street in Miedzylesie, about 10 km. southeast of Warsaw. Up to 1945,
A-1 was a private enterprise known as the Szpotanski Electrical
Apparatus Factory (Fabryka Aparatow Elektrycznych Szpotanskiego). It
was under the direct control of the Central Administration for the
Electrical Machine Industry which was subordinate to the Ministr of
Machine Industry. ,for location and general layout see Annex A.
2. The factory occupied an approximate area of 2,500 sq. m. and was

a. High tension circuit breakers.
b. Measuring current transformers and measuring tension transformers.
c. Automatic potentiometers and temperature regulators (mostly for
the mining industry).
d. Protection devices for high tension transmission lines, such as,
lightning arrestors.

potentiometers were based on a Soviet model which is a direct copy of
the U.S. Kent model. The raw materials used were steel, copper, brass,
insulation materials, silicon steel, porcelain, insulation varnish,
oil paint, nitro paint, iron castings, and Bakelite. There was a
critical shortage of copper.

5. The factory in Warsaw employed about 2,000 workers and worked in three
shifts. The chief director of the factory was Eng. Maurycy KWAL; the
chief designer was Walerjan CZARNECKI. The transformer section was
run by MAKOWSKI, and rotection section by Eng. AULEITNER. (For

6. Electricity was received from the grid but the factory had one trans-
former station. All material was transported to and from the factory
by truck.
The factory was guarded by the industrial guards. The area in front
of the building by the entrance was fenced. The entrance gate for
vehicles was on Kaluszynska Street; the pedestrian entrance was on
Terespolska Street.
