Assistant NIO/Narcotics met with the ADDO to discuss current DO reporting on narcotics; and with OGC officers, to discuss a forthcoming OGC study to be done on hehalf of OGI concerning Mexican laws that may pertain to drug control; with DI and DO officers, discussed the current drug threat from Latin America and the Caribbean at an NNBIS interdiction planning session chaired by the Vice President's Chief of Staff, and also at a follow-on meeting chaired by the NNBIS Chief of Staff; with DI and DO officers, attended an International Narcotics Intelligence Coordination meeting at State chaired by the Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics Matters. NIO/East Asia (Carl Ford) met with Ambassador-Designate to China, Winston Lord; and met with Frederick Brown of the Majority Staff, Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, to discuss his two-hour meeting with President Marcos. Assistant NIO/East met with John Scott (State Department, Japan Desk) and Tom Martin (State Department, Economic and Business Affairs) to discuss Asian trade and energy issues. Assistant NIO/Economics met with the Strategic Materials Study Group to prepare Congressional testimony in support of the Pofficers~to discussnresearch on~oilfproductionoand~Soviet/East with SOVA European relations.
