Pocket Submarines: The Yugoslav Navy is equipped with 25 Russian pocket
su tines, a component parts of these submarines were assembled at the
dockyards of Tivat. The assembling process was carried out under the super-
vision of Captain Nikola r ljanovaki and other Soviet engineers, and by
Yugoslav, German, Czefahoslovak and Soviet personnel. This operation, Bch
lasted about six months, was carried out in utmost secrecy by trusted Com-
munists. The group of pocket submarines is now under the command of a young
Soviet officer, Captain Petar Fiedorovic, of the Soviet Navy. The submarines
are marked "DJ.P.l", y'DK.P.2", and so on, and bear different names such as
TRIGLAV, ME OVIC, TITO, JAJCE, MIABRI, PARTIZA CA, AVAI4., 25 OKTO3AR, at
cetera. They are deployed at Djenovici,. Twat and Risen.
2. Other t es of Submarines : This second group of submarines is composed of
14 nitro various Apes, including old German.. Italian and Soviet craft.
Their base is in the neighborhood of Fiume. Commander of this group is a
Yugoslav admiral who was recently promoted to that rank, and who spent two
years in the Soviet Union attending special courses in that country. Several
officers of the Russian and former German Davy instruct the Yugoslav crews on
how to handle the submarines. These submarines are marked "P.1", "F r 2'd, at
cetera, followeed by a names. Some of the names were I LJEN TRIG] V, JASTRE- B
and SOKOLAC. Men of he Soviet Navy, stationed either at the Yugoslav Naval
Command or on board the sur r.arine s, are in charge. of the maintenance of both
pocket and medium-size submarines. The Yugoslav Five--Tear Plan contc :plates
the construction of a strong fleet of submarines for the defense of the entire
Adriatic coastline.
