Approved For Release 2009/06/17: CIA-RDP05T00644R000200420017-9 0 February 17, 1977 Dear Stan, A voice from the past! I was thrilled and deeply moved when I learned that President Carter nominated you for Director of the CIA. It was not only a feeling of personal delight at seeing an old friend receive world- wide recognition, but also a sense of assurance knowing our country is calling for someone so loyal and able to fill this job at so crucial a period of time. I recall an incident many years ago when as a first clansman you had the wisdom and compassion to advise -a plebe, "It isn't that everybody here is against you, it's just that no one is really for you." That simple, STAT clear, lucid revelation was not only a great help to me STAT at the Academy, but during many periods later in life. You gave me perspective that led to confidence in myself then. Today, I'm sure that through your leader- ship our country will regain some of its confidence and pride as well. Sincerely, Admiral Stansfield Turner C/0 Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 STAT Approved For Release 2009/06/17: CIA-RDP05T00644R000200420017-9
