I hope that happens, which is another way of saying that I hope you will accept the invitation which I'm delighted to extend to you in this letter. I'm writing on behalf of the Forum Committee of the City Club of Cleveland, and of the Club's 1,200 members, to invite you to address the City Club Forum. The Forum is held each Friday - luncheon at Noon, the address at 12:30 p.m. The address, generally 30 minutes in length, is followed by a question-and-answer period to 1:30 p.m. The Forum is carried by 17 area radio stations and has national wire- service coverage. The Forum is the longest uninterrupted weekly forum series in the U.S.A. In addition to the Forum address there are options for a Press Conference and for interviews before local TV cameras and in local radio stations. One of the V.I.P.'s this year to have stood before the City Club audience and the podium microphones is another son of Sabrina, our friend Bill Webster. Having had the experience here, Bill could fill in any missing bits of information for you. Forum speakers have been local, regional, national and international persons: senators, cabinet members, national leaders of various movements and causes. Among '78-'79 Forum speakers besides Bill have been: Joseph Califiano, John Glenn, Jack Anderson, Dr. Benjamin Spock, George Steinbrenner, Adalai Stevenson, Jr., William F. Buckley, Eleanor Smeal, Patricia Derian, Maynard Jackson, and Mary Rose Oakar. We propose the following Fridays: January 18th or 25th; any Friday in February except the 8th and any Friday in March, April, or May. If none of these times are suitable and you're intrigued by this invitation, please suggest another Friday date which fits your calendar. If you need information which Bill for any reason cannot supply, give me a call. I simply want to make certain you have all the data you need so you can make the right decision. I've already gone on record to say that I hope your decision is affirmative. It will be great to see you again - anytime. All good wishes, Stan. Perry ,. Williams, Dean (Amhe t '45) cc: William Evans, Forum Chairman Alan Davis, Executive Director, City Club Approved For Release 2009/06/26: CIA-RDP05T00644R000401130036-7 Approved For Release 2009/06/26: CIA-RDP05T00644R000401130036-7 14 December 1979 Dear Perry, How nice to hear from you. It has certainly been some time and I wish our paths could cross again soon. I was. in Cleveland just a few weeks ago both for an off-the-record interview with Tom Val4 and his editorial board and to have dinner with a group of fifteen leading business executives. Had I realized that you were in Cleveland, I would most certainly have asked to have you included with the dinner group so that we could have said hello. Unfortunately, I am going to have to decline your very kind invi- tation to address the Forum in the first half of 1980. It is just the kind of thing I like to do and enjoy. The demands for such appearances, however,. are never ending. At this point I do not feel I can justify a return trip to Cleveland so soon. I am conscientiously trying to get around the country and speak to and with various types of groups in many areas. While I realize that this last trip to Cleveland did not cover anywhere near the size of audience you would have at the Forum, I still feel that I should touch some other geographical bases before returning. On top of that, the calendar is already mercifully full through the spring. I apologize for not being able to be more responsive. Perhaps we can work something out at a more distant time. Alternatively, if anything should bring me anywhere near Cleveland on a Friday, I will giveyou as much notice as I can and see.if we can work something out. Again, thanks for thinking of me. and very warmest wishes. STAT Yours, .. STANSFIELD TURNER Dean Perry R. Wi l l i ams.
