Construction, Mining, and Factories DATE DISTR. 7 August 1953 in the Nova Zagora - Stara Zagora Area 2. The Runo Textile Mill near Sofia NO. OF PAGES 2 PLACE ACQUIRED 25X1 Detelins (N 142-10, E 26-02), Golyama Detelina (N 42-11, E 26-02 , and Troyanovo are to be consolidated to form a city (similar to Dimitrovgrad) with the probable name "Chervenkovgrad." The center of the city is to be at Troyanovo. Large deposits of coal were found On the vicinity"of these three villages in 1950 and 1951 and are being exploited by the Mining and Underground Riches Ministry. Workerst houses and mining installations are currently under construction. 3. In February 1953 observed four cranes, each marked "160 tons" (sic) 25X1 unloaded in the Radnevo railroad station (N 142-17, E 25-56) to be used in this construction work. (They were unloaded at Radnevo station rather than the closer Lyubenovo station because the former is the largest station in the area and has a connecting highway to Troyanovo.). The cranes had Soviet markings. The booms were at leaaat 10 meters long, the cables approximately six centimeters in diameter, and the buckets of 2-3 ton capacity. The cranes were to be mounted on caterpillar treads. 10,000 25X1 leva (new currency) will be paid to anyone contracting to assemble the cranes. It is to pass between Novoeelete (N 12-18, E 26-08) and Radeteki (N 112-17, E 26-11). 25X1 6. The gypsum is transported to Radnevo where it is processed and packed in bags for shipment to all parts of Bulgaria. The "greater portion" is sent to the cement factory in the Rakovski section of Dimitrovgrad. 9. A IL-man Bulgarian geological research commission headed by Lyubomir Bicharov, a geologist from Sofia, is currently looking for gypsum deposits about two or two and one-half kilometers south of Novoselets in the direction of Kovaohevo. A State-owned gypsum enterprise has its headquarters at Radnevo. There are nine quarries, six of which are in o eration, in the vicinity of Radnevo, Novoeelete, and Kovachevo (N 42-14, E 26-0}L). An average of 50-60 men work in each quarry during the summer; villagers increase the labor force during the winter. In the summer, about 100 men work in quarry No. 8 located between Novoeelete and Kova- chevo, and in the winter about 200 men work at the quarry. Soda Water Bottling in Novoselets 10. There is a small "litmonata" bottling plant in the center of Novoselets village. About 1,500-2,0OO bottles per day are produced by hand. These are sold in the surrounding villages. the greatest economic strain in Bulgaria at present is on the white collar government worker. The Runo Textile Factory near Sofia 12. The State textile factory (Durzhaven Tekstilen Kombinat) "Reno" is located 100- 120 meters northwest of Iskur station about 10 kilometers southeast of Sofia. It is located in an area 200 meters square. This is the largest textile factory in Bulgaria, employing 2,000-2,300 workers and produdng wool and cotton cloth. 25X1 13.
