(b) Main airfield domestic site (see sketch at Appendix "B")
(i) The main domestic site lies NE of JOCKS ?01HF and consists of five
identical, brick-built barrack blocks bordering round an asphalt
parade ground. Each block is two-storied and measures approximately
60 metres by 15 metres. There is a series of small attics located
in the pointed roofing.
(ii) The airfield headquarters block and lecture rooms is situated on
the eastern side of the parade ground.
(iii) Three shallow, pre-fabricated wooden huts lie on the opposite side
of the main roadway leading into the built-up area. These huts
are used for storage purposes.
(iv) The permanenc, two-storied, brick-built hospital lies approximately
midway between the parade ground and the main guardroom located on
the northern perimeter of the airfield.
(v) A large boiler house with a tall chimney, approximately 20 metres
in height, is situated at the end of the main road and beyond this
there lies a permanent, semi-underground generator station.
(c) Hangar site
Adjoining the northern side of an extensive rectangular concrete
apron a hangar is now being constructed. This building is approxi-
mately 80 - 100 metres in length and approximately 4C metres in
width, and lies with its narrow end on to the apron. A concrete
track, approximately the same width as the hangar, connects it to
the nearby apron (see sketch at Appendix "B").
The hangar is of concrete construction, with a shallow, curved
roof, mostly made of glass. There is only one entrance, this being
located on the southern (apron) side, although the rear wall has
two small doors let into it.
The two main doors for the southern entrance lie on the ground near
the apron, one on each side, awaiting mounting. A shallow rail
has been let into the concrete to act as a lower runner but as yet
no upper framework has been erected.
(d)
Airfield fuel installation
The airfield fuel installation lies in a thickly wooded area
approximately south of the main domestic site and to the west of
the rectangular apron located in front of the new hangar site.
A concrete roadway leads off in a westerly direction from this
apron and fuel bowser lorries have been observed passing to and
fro along this roadway.
A rail spur leads down past the main domestic site and terminates
somewhere in the wooded area in the northern perimeter of the site.
Cistern waggons have been observed passing down this rail spur.
4. MISCELLANEOUS
